What Actually Causes a Loose Vagina?

Childbirth – A loose vagina is often caused by childbirth. Delivering a baby weakens vaginal walls, resulting in looseness.

Aging and Loss of Estrogen – Estrogen levels drop as women age. This results in thinning vaginal tissue, a dryer, less stretchy vagina and vaginal laxity.

Myths About What Causes a Loose Vagina

Following are some of the myths associated with having a loose vagina.

Too much sex – Having too much sex does not result in a loosened vagina. In actuality, the vaginal muscles are quite elastic and can retain its normal shape and size after sex.

Too many sexual partners – Having multiple sexual partners is a myth associated with a loose vagina. As mentioned above, your vagina relaxes only when you are aroused and then returns to its normal size and shape after sex.

Treatments for Tightening

There are many treatment options available to help strengthen and tighten the pelvic floor and vaginal tissue.

Bladder prolapse can cause incontinence and affect a woman’s quality of life. Pelvic prolapse can be uncomfortable and cause discomfort or pain. Prolapse and loose vaginal walls can lead to unsatisfying sex.

Below are both non-surgical and surgical options to treat vaginal looseness and prolapse.

Non-Surgical Treatments to Strengthen Pelvic Floor Muscles

Kegel Exercises – Strengthening pelvic floor muscles can help improve the elasticity of the vaginal walls. Kegel exercises can help with this. The best way to do Kegels is when you are urinating. Simply clinch your pelvic floor muscles to try and stop the flow of urine. Hold and squeeze each time for about 4-5 seconds. After you learn which muscles to tighten, you can do this exercise anytime throughout the day. Performing Kegels up to 10 times a day is recommended to improve tightness. If you need additional help, a pelvic floor specialist can help.

ThermiVa – ThermiVa is a non-surgical solution to treating vaginal looseness.
