Vaginal Rejuvenation

Vaginal rejuvenation, or vaginoplasty, is a vaginal tightening procedure and is the ultimate treatment to fix vaginal laxity. Vaginal rejuvenation aims to improve the size, function, appearance and reduce pain-related issues in female genitalia. This procedure reduces, reshapes or tightens female genital tissues to help restore a firmer tone and/or a more youthful, symmetrical appearance.

When women undergo the natural process of childbirth, the muscles and tissues of the vagina, vulva and labia all stretch. These and similar changes such as aging or fluctuation in weight can have a negative impact on sexual intimacy. Women can experience decreased sensation, pain or soreness during sex. Some women experience irritability while riding bicycles, horses or other high-impact exercises.

The 2 Types of Vaginal Rejuvenation

Vaginal Rejuvenation – Surgical

Vaginal rejuvenation, also called vaginoplasty or vaginal tightening surgery, reduces the vaginal diameter, which restores and tightens the internal and external structures of the vagina. The end result helps women with vaginal relaxation experience improved sensation and pleasure. This procedure can also be performed for patients who have experienced urinary incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse and are undergoing a complete vaginal reconstruction surgery. After surgery, patients typically stay in a hotel overnight and go home the following day. The procedure itself takes as little as 60 minutes or slightly longer, depending on the extent of work being done.

Vaginal Rejuvenation – Non-Surgical

Non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation, also known as Thermiva, is a non-invasive and pain-free procedure that can help improve vaginal laxity, urinary leakage caused by coughing, sexual dysfunction, vaginal dryness, and sagging labia. This procedure is 30 minutes and involves the use of radiofrequency energy which mildly heats the internal and external structures. In turn, this restores function and tone, as well as enhances pleasure and friction during sexual intercourse. Unlike vaginal tightening surgery, you won’t require any downtime following the procedure, which takes about 30-45 minutes.

How Can Vaginal Rejuvenation Help?

Women who have an overly large, or sagging labia can experience considerable discomfort when wearing certain clothing or exercising, as well as negatively impact a woman’s self-confidence. Following childbirth or menopause, loss of vaginal tone can lead to incontinence, vaginal dryness, and painful/uncomfortable sexual intercourse.

All of these issues can be addressed with vaginal rejuvenation by restoring a more normal tone and appearance of the Vagina and labia. Our board-certified cosmetic surgeons can achieve one or more of the following with vaginal rejuvenation:

  • Reduce/eliminate stress urinary incontinence
  • Help tight clothing/swimsuits fit more comfortably
  • Alleviate vaginal dryness
  • Restore sensation
  • Improve outward cosmetic aesthetics of vagina.

After Vaginal Rejuvenation

Following vaginal rejuvenation, women can expect to use ice packs to reduce the swelling for the first 24-48 hours. Wearing loose clothing is highly recommended and routine everyday activity is permitted. Women need to avoid baths, hot tubs and pools for four weeks post-surgery. Most patients can return to work after about a week unless the nature of the work involves strenuous activity. Depending on the procedure and how well the patient takes care of themselves, most can resume sexual intercourse within eight weeks of their surgery.
