Following are three symptoms women should never ignore. As urogynecologists and OB/GYNs, we have seen many cases where women have waited too long to make an appointment with their doctor, only to receive a bad diagnosis that could have been avoided. Be proactive and do not let this happen to you.

3 Symptoms Not to Ignore

1. Heavy/Painful Periods

As far as your periods are concerned, you know what’s normal for you and your body. If you suddenly experience heavy or painful periods that are out of the ordinary, you need to be seen by an OB/GYN or urogynecologist. These symptoms can lead to many different gynecological problems that should never be pushed to the back of your worries. Treatments are available for heavy or painful periods that can bring you relief.

2. Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding

As well as unordinary heavy or painful periods, abnormal vaginal bleeding or bleeding after menopause is another symptom that shouldn’t be taken lightly. There are many different reasons for abnormal bleeding, including gynecological cancers like cervical or uterine cancer. A noncancerous cause of abnormal bleeding is endometrial hyperplasia, which occurs when the uterine lining grows thick. You know what’s normal for you and your body, and any abnormal bleeding is not a symptom to ignore.

3. Painful Sex

If you’re experiencing pain during sex, it’s crucial to see your doctor as a serious medical condition would need to be ruled out. Painful sex can be caused by many different issues, including endometriosis. Endometriosis is the swelling of the lining inside the uterus and can even lead to infertility. Also, watch for any pelvic pain, pain when urinating, and extremely painful periods. Treatment options are available, but it’s up to you to know what’s going on with your body to be proactive.

You Know Your Body Best

If you begin experiencing any symptoms that aren’t normal for you, listen to your body. Staying proactive and seeking treatment early can help ensure the best possible outcome. Trust your gut and make taking care of yourself a priority.
